Bowling

We are finally all healthy and well around here, and that makes me so happy!  So we all decided to get out of the house yesterday and go do something fun.  I took the girls bowling because Callie had only been once before and I knew Kayla hadn't been in quite a while.  We had a great time and can't wait to go back again.

It's been a long couple weeks

It's been one of those months where it seems like someone around us is sick with something or another.  This past couple weeks have been long ones.  It all started out with Hailey getting an ear infection about two weeks ago.  So I took her in, got her on antibiotics and hoped that was going to be the end of it.  Meanwhile, Callie broke out in a rash all over her body (the same mysterious rash she broke out in 2 times last year).  This rash thing just totally stresses me out, because it looks horrible and we have had 2 different opinions on what it is.  So we are not really sure what it is, if it is contagious, etc.  I'm pretty sure it's not contagious, since Callie is the only one who ever gets it.  But it involves bathing her in special medication twice a day and putting ointment on each sore.  Which is very time consuming when you have like a 100 of them.  So anyway, I kept her home from church and stuff until her rash was starting to heal.
  Just as we were getting Callie's rash all cleared up we also were finishing up Hailey's antibiotic for her ear.  Well, I thought that was the end of it.  But then a couple days later, Hailey started to get a high fever.  Since it was Thursday night, I thought I better take her in before the weekend in case it was her ear infection that didn't clear up. So I took her back in only to have him say her blood count looked great and her ears looked great.  So he thought it was just a virus and she was just going to have to fight it out. She ended up having a fever of around 103 degrees for 3 days straight.   And it was constant, every four hours as her medicine was starting to wear off it would climb right back up.  And you know that just had me worried sick the whole time.  I hate high fevers!  Anyway, she seems to be coming out of it now, her fever was only 99 degrees today.  So hopefully this is almost the end of it.  But I am so ready for everyone to be feeling good again!  Here are some pics of my poor little baby (this is pretty much how she was all week).

On a brighter note, here is a picture of our new patio unbrella, isn't it beautiful?  We love having picnics outside now.

Funny Callie

Callie's always saying the funniest things trying to make people laugh. This morning while Kayla was eating her cereal she was kind of dazing off into outer space. Callie said: "Hey Kayla! I know what your thinking 'bout... your thinking 'bout a dude!"

Kayla and I started laughing and I said "No Callie, you must be thinking 'bout a dude." And she says "No, I'm thinking 'bout Disney princesses!"

Oh of course, I should have known, how could she possibly be thinking about anything else?

Summer so far

So far our summer has been going really great. I have to admit, I was nervous for summer to start. I read on one of my friends blogs how much they love having their kids home in the summer and dread when they have to go back to school. Ha ha, I have to admit I kinda felt the opposite. I usually can't wait for school to start again after summer.
Hopefully that doesn't make me a bad mom.
Let me explain why. It's not because I don't love having my kids around. But I suppose what type of kids you have depends on whether it's easy or hard for you to have them home in the summer. For example:

Kayla does not sleep in... at all. As a matter of fact I think she has woken up by 7:00 almost every morning since summer started. Sometimes she even has come out right after Brad leaves for work at like 6:00. Now I'm all about getting up at 7:00 if you have to go somewhere, but if you don't... relax please! ;)

The second problem is how active my girls are. When I was little we stayed home almost all the time, everyday. It might have been because we had so many kids that it was almost impossible for my mom to take us on an outing. So anyway, I was used to spending my summers playing in the ditch with my brothers, building forts, jumping on the trampoline, reading and using our imaginations. My children on the other hand want to be entertained: "What are we gonna do, where are we gonna go?" "Can we go to the movie, can we go out to eat, can we go to chuck e cheese, etc etc..." Sometimes I feel like saying. What happened to using your imaginations? Play with your toys, ride your bikes, do a craft!

And last of all I was worried that there might be fighting. Kayla and Callie just started to fight a little before school got out. And I was worried that it might make for a long summer. But thank goodness they have actually done really well. And have got along quite nicely.

So to my surprise this summer has been really nice. Kayla has matured a lot and has been a huge help to me. Even though she wakes up early she has learned to stay quiet so the rest of us can sleep a little longer.
We have also managed to find a few things to keep ourselves busy like camp for Kayla and story time at the library. And we are going to be going to Disney World in 2 weeks and we are SO excited for that.
Anyway, we are enjoying our time together. And I think this will be a summer where I will be a little sad to have school start again.

Swimming pool and Mutual

Grandma Shelton bought the girls a new swimming pool since we couldn't find our pool from last year.  We finally found it, but not in the attic like we thought we would.  We found it in the ditch down the road from our house and it was covered in nasty water and trash (needless to say, we didn't really want that pool after that.)  Ha ha... I have no idea how it got clear over there!  Anyway, the girls love their new pool and they even managed to fit the big "raft" floaty in there.  Callie called it her boat.

Also, last night for mutual we had a joint activity.  Billy (my father in law) is the Young Men President now and so he was in charge for the evening.  They had a big hot dog/ hamburger dinner and everything was a lot of fun.  I think all the kids had a blast.  We had a great turnout too, considering most of the kids live quite a distance away.

Afterwords we all played volleyball and Diana Bowen was sweet enough to hold Hailey while I joined in on the fun.  I can't say that I played anything like I use to, but it was a lot of fun.

On the drive home....

We saw some fireworks on the drive home and pulled over to watch. The girls loved it!

New experiment

So I was looking at some fabric flower hair pieces the other day, and I thought that might be fun to try and make those.  So when I was bored last night I decided to give it a try.  I didn't actually know how I was "supposed" to make them, but I just kinda played around and cut the fabric how I thought it might make a cute flower.  This is what I came up with.  They could definately use improvement, but I thought it was a good start. My little sweethearts even agreed to be my flower models ;)

Last night, we went over to Papa and Grandmas and had dinner and then watermelon outside. Hailey got to have her first try on the pillow swing (with grandma holding her on of course). She love it! On our drive home we saw some fireworks and so we pulled over and watched them. I'll put those pics up later when I get them from Brad's phone.

This last pic is one of Kennedy and Callie playing together last week.  They have been having a lot of fun together.  We also went to Raegan's 1st birthday party last week, but I forgot to bring my camera (Raegan is Kennedy's baby sister).  She looked so cute and she had even started taking a few steps on her first birthday.  Yay, Raegan!
